A Brief Introduction to HTML

By: Jennifer Devitt
February 27th, 2017

In January 2017 SYDCON was invited to attend the GEMS conference held at a local D155 high school, Prairie Ridge. The conference was held in order to excite and expose middle school girls to different opportunities in STEM. SYDCON was asked to teach a brief 20-minute session about software development. Naturally, we chose to focus our session around HTML and taught the young programmers the basics of how to create a simple static website. Below is the handout we created to pass out to the students.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at SYDCON! Are you ready for our Thankful Challenge?

By: Jennifer Devitt
November 22nd, 2016

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving?! How did that happen? With the mild temperatures we've had here in Chicago (well at least until this week anyway, brr) that Thanksgiving has snuck up on us. It seems that's happening more and more these last few years as stores go from Halloween to Christmas in the blink of an eye. Sure, there may not be many Thanksgiving decorations or songs but here at SYDCON, we believe in the importance of being thankful and counting your blessings. Over the last few years, here on the blog, we have participated in the Thankful Challenge which I learned about over on my friend Gini Dietrich's blog SpinSucks. Since then, we have both done variations of the challenge. If you follow the link to SpinSucks above, you can see Gini's 2016 version.  As for me, I went ahead and made my list.  I tend to get distracted during my ten-minute window dwelling on each thing I can think of so my list tends to be short for 10 minutes. This year, I came up with 30 things, I am thrilled to share some highlights with you below.

It's Wednesday so that means it's tech news day. In the near future, you will be seeing some changes here at the SYDCON blog. We will be going back to more industry specific posts and cycle in some posts from our actual developers. As many of you can imagine, it's easy to hit a phase of writer's block and veer off topic, or you get swamped with day to day business and then sometimes the blog gets lost in the shuffle. Our hope is to have a new blog cycle in effect starting around the first of the year, so stayed tuned! As we round out the end of 2016 expect to see our annual Thanksgiving, holiday tech gifts guide, and holiday posts.  In the meantime, let's see what kind of tech news I have for you this week.
